Summer School Announcement


Students and parents, this is a reminder for those students attending summer school.  The summer school office will not be mailing schedules.  Students and parents can now visit the summer school site and print schedules which will include room numbers and teachers’ names.   Please be sure your students have their printed schedule in hand when they arrive for summer school June 2.  If your students need assistance with printing their schedule, please encourage them to see their counselor.

This week in Social Studies:

Monday:  We will analyze the Mayan Civilization through using the textbook as a resource and answering critical thinking questions.
Homework:  Mayan Civilization questions if not completed. Quiz over the Mayan civilization on Wednesday.

Tuesday:  We will trace the development of the Aztecs by reading an article on the city of Tenochtitlan.  We will also take notes.
Homework:  Mayan Civilization quiz tomorrow.

Wednesday:   Mayan Civilization quiz.  We will critique the rise and fall of the Incan Empire by using the textbook as a resource. 
Homework:  Guided reading questions if not complete.

Thursday:  Review Mesoamerica by completing a venn diagram for each culture.
Review for EOC semester exam.  Exam on Monday, May 19th.
Homework:  None

Friday:  Current event presentations.  Review for EOC on Monday.

Tuesday:  Map testing- Writing.  Maya and Aztec video using the strategy "Write Something/Say Something" for notetaking.

Wednesday:  Map testing - Math.  Complete video and notes.
Homework:  Cultures of Latin America - due Monday, May 12th.

Thursday:  Comprehension questions over Mayan people.  Read the story, "The Hero Twins" and write answers to questions using constructed response.  Class discussion of why this story is important.

Monday:  Scientific Revolution quiz.  Identify key terms and names in Chapter 15, Lesson 3 and 4.
Homework:  Complete Terms and Names

Tuesday:  Exploration background information using powerpoint and 3-2-1 strategy.  Students will write letters based upon life on a ship during the 16th century.
Homework:  Complete Life on A Ship letters.

Wednesday:  Share letters.  Use SQ3R reading strategy to complete lesson 3 and 4.  Survey, question, read, recite and review.
Homework:  None

Thursday:  Research a famous explorer and create a Voki with monologue to present.
Homework: Complete Voki if needed.

NOTE:  The end of the quarter is this Thursday.  Make sure you do not have any missing assignments!

This week in social studies:
Monday:  Students will begin the second semester DBQ.  Samuaria and Knights: Were the Similarities Greater Than the Differences? 
Homework:Analyze all documents.

Tuesday:  Grade all document analysis.  Organize documents into "buckets" and write thesis statement.
Homework:  Be prepared to write the rough draft for the DBQ essay on Wednesday.

Wednesday:  Students will write the rough draft of the DBQ essay using the documents.
Homework:  Be prepared to type the DBQ essay on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday:   Students will learn text features using Chapter 15. They will take notes from a ppt to introduce the unit. Note: Students are typing the DBQ essays in English.
Homework:  None

 Friday:  Current event presentations.  Students will complete a circle chart on each of the scientists.

Hope everyone enjoyed their time off for spring break. It was great to spend time with family and just relax!
This week in Social Studies:

Monday:  We will begin our study of the Protestant Reformation. We will complete our Chapter 14 notes and vocabulary.
Homework:  Complete Reformation vocabulary.

Tuesday:  Meet in Computer Lab for a Reformation Web Search and analyzing a primary document of the 95 Thesis. 
Homework:  Complete Reformation Web Search

Wednesday:  We will review vocabulary.  Classroom assignment will be to answer questions using the Reformation Chapter Walk.

Thursday:  We will summarize meaning from text using Martin Luther's cartoons.  Students will create a Twitter profile and news feed based on the Martin Luther documents.

Tuesday:  We will identify the reasons the Renaissance spread north.  We will complete our notes for Lesson 3.  Take an open book quiz over Lesson 2.

Wednesday:  We will examine a Timeline:  All About the Renaissance.  We will use an article about Leonardo Da Vinci to complete our 8 square notes (purple sheet).

Monday:  Students will learn about the Renaissance inventors/artists by presenting an informal poster through a gallery walk activity.
Homework:  Bio Poem on famous Artist/inventor

Tuesday:  Review for EOC.  Discovery video:  All About The Renaissance with Write It/Say It note taking template.
Homework: Review vocabulary

Wednesday:  We will meet in Lab 112 for EOC (End of Course) exam.  We will research using  Renaissance Web Search questions.
Homework:  Renaissance Web Search if not completed in class.

Thursday:  Ch. 13, Lesson 1 ppt and fill in the blank notes.  We will examine the factors that led to the Renaissance time period. 
Homework:  Complete reading Lesson 1.

Friday:   Current Event Presentations.  We will describe characteristics of significant people of the Italian Renaissance.  PPt lesson 2 with notes.  Quiz Lesson 2 will be assigned.

Welcome back and exciting news!

Welcome back!  Exciting news!!  My first grandchild was born this week! What an amazing feeling:)
I hope you had just as great a break as I did.  I will not be at school Thursday or Friday, so work extra hard and show your best character for our substitute.  Have a great rest of the week.

Thursday:  Analyze the Bushido Code by breaking down the characteristics of being a Samurai.
Homework:  Make sure you have all of your notes and any worksheets from our Japan Unit.  Open book test tomorrow.

Friday:  Japan open book test.  You may use your notes as well as any other papers we have done, and your textbook.  If you do not complete the test, you will have an opportunity to finish on Monday.
