Monday:  We will trace the development of Japan and Korea by using National Geographic book sets and completing a graphic organizer for our notes.

This week in Social Studies:

Monday:  Using an article on the only woman emperor of China, Wu Zhao, the students will use the literacy strategy VIP with #hashtags to find important information and summarize.
Homework:  China Unit Test on Monday, November 25th.

Tuesday:  Students will summarize how the Mongols changed Chinese government and expanded trade and foreign contacts using alpha boxes and word chains.
Homework:  Complete word chain summary if not completed in class.

Wednesday:  Students will read Chapter 7, Lesson 3 in the textbook and will use a graphic organizer for note-taking. 
Homework:  Complete notes for lesson 3.

Thursday:  China study guide will be assigned.  Think Dots activity for differentiation.

This week in Social Studies:

Monday:  Veteran's Day Assembly.  We will analyze how philosophy, religion and technology molded Chinese society by viewing a video, China From Past to Present, and using a quick write/quick draw for notetaking.
Homework:  Write a summary paragraph over the video.

Tuesday: Meet in lab 171 for China Cyberhunt.
Homework:  Complete cyberhunt if not completed in class.

Wednesday:  Students will describe how Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism influenced Chinese society by completing a guided notes activity, an "In Their Shoes' activity, and writing a letter from the perspective of one of the religions.  
Homework:  Letter to the emperor of China from a religious perspective.

Thursday:  Complete guided notes from power point.  Using the textbook, students will complete a Chapter Walk answering questions. 
Homework:  Complete Chapter Walk questions if not complete.

Friday:  Current event presentations.  Grade chapter walk questions. Review learning.

Week of August 19-23

I hope everyone had a great start to this new school year!  I have enjoyed meeting each of you and look forward to getting to know you better.

This week in Social Studies:
Monday:  We began Unit 1, Geography.  We worked on our vocabulary, and we created our world maps to use in our Social Studies folders for the year.  All maps are due by the end of the day on Wednesday.
Homework:  World Maps and study vocabulary.

Tuesday:  We worked on our world maps and reviewed the vocabulary.

Wednesday:  We used our cell phones/tablets to take a quick quiz using socrative.com.  Students not having cell phones used paper and pencil.  We reviewed the 5 Themes of Geography.  Students will create a 5 themes foldable due on Friday.

Thursday:  Create the 5 themes foldable.  Focus on different types of maps, and describe the advances made in map making features.

Get ready for an exciting year!

School starts on August 14th! I have enjoyed my summer and I hope you have too!  I'm gearing up for a great year and am looking forward to meeting you all.  I wanted to let you know that I will not be at the Raven's Orientation on August 7th.  I will be in Orlando working alongside my husband...wish it was vacation:)
Please go by my classroom and pick up a letter from me.  It will be on the front table beside the door.
Take a look at the textbook and atlas we will use. Also feel free to pick a stickie note from my wish list (on the board).

Wednesday:  Character Education.  We will explain the reasons for the Crusades and read in our textbook.  We will create a foldable to show what we have learned.

Thursday:  We will read about the Hundred Years' War and the Black Death.  Students will use an outline format for note-taking.

Monday:  Chapter 9, Lesson 1 notes, and complete all vocabulary. Europe project information given out. Projects are due on February 8th.
Homework:  Study for western Europe map test re-takes on Wednesday.
Tuesday:  Lesson 2, Daily Life in Medieval Europe guided reading and class discussion.
Homework:  Study for western Europe map test re-takes on Wednesday.
Wednesday:  Computer lab for research for projects.  Map re-takes given.

This week in Social Studies:

Tuesday:  We will reveiw for the Western Europe political map test for Wednesday.  Countries and captials re-take quiz will be Wednesday as well.  We will use important key words to analyze information. We will use two stratigies: New to Known and SAW (student action words). Assignment: Vocabulary Choice Boards.
Homework:  Western Europe political map test Wednesday (tomorrow).

Wednesday: Western Europe political map test.  Complete the vocabulary choice board. Countries/capitals quiz re-takes.
Homework:  Study for western Europe physical map test on Friday. 

Thursday:  Teacher guided notes and guided reading questions over pgs. 291-297.
Homework:  Test over western Europe physical map tomorrow!

Friday:  Test: Western Europe physicla map test.  Current Event presentations.

Week of January 14-18

This week in Social Studies:
Monday:  We will grade our Japan tests and discuss results.  We will also begin our studies of Medieval Europe by viewing a video, "Life in the Middle Ages" along with focus questions to complete.
Tuesday: We will identify and label a political map of Europe.
Homework: Complete the map if not completed in class.
Wednesday:  Identify and label a physical map of Europe.
Homework:  Complete map if not completed in class. Test on Wednesday, January 23rd.
Thursday:  Desk map activity to review and practice. Assignment: Cross word puzzle.
Homework:  Study captials and countries for test on Friday.
Friday:  Test over countries and capitals!
Smartboard activity/review both political and physical Europe maps for test on Wednesday. Homework: Study for Western Europe map test Wednesday, January 23rd.

Wednesday:  Japan document based activity
